Ki o Rahi

On Tuesday the 13th of June 2023 we had the privilege to have a Ki o Rahi tournament. We were arranged into our houses, our teams were Kauri, Rata Rimu and Totara, I was in Rimu.  Once we were all arranged in teams other classes had to go back and wait for the match between Kauri and Rata.  While the rest of us were in the classroom room 6 were watching the game. At the end of the match, the Coach Trey and his assistant     called out the winner. The winner was… KAURI. Now it was time for the 2nd match, it was my team Rimu vs Totara. I wasn’t a part of that game but my 2 brothers were so I could go and watch my brothers play. I went out of the classroom and started cheering from the sideline. It was so exciting seeing and hearing people shouting and cheering on their teammates, we were all so proud to show how much we love our team. After that game we all waited for the coaches to tell us who won…  RIMU WON, We were all proud of our team for making an effort.

The next game with our team was with Kauri, we all played really well and always tried to push harder to win, but we lost, but it didn’t mean we lost hope in winning for our team, we all still had really good skills in playing. The last and final game was with Totara and Rata. Totara and Rata was a real tense game, they were all running guarding and side stepping. As we were all cheering for them, Totara and Rata were running like a cheetah and scoring goals effortlessly. In the end Totara won. After the tournament we all gathered up in the canopy and waited for the coaches to gather up all the points from each game and team to see which team won the monopoly $100 note. When the coaches came up onto the steps to announce the winners, we could see that everyone was hoping for the win. Coach Trey announced the team that came 3rd and the team was… RIMU! We were all so proud, even if we didn’t make it 1st place, we knew that we tried our very best. The team that came 2nd was… TOTARA! they were all so proud of their team, but some were disappointed that they didn’t come 1st. The team that came 1st place was…. KAURI! They were all cheering, screaming from the top of their lungs, they were all very proud of their team.

Rosa Parks

This week we have been researching our own advocate for people. I chose Rosa Parks, my reasoning is because I never had the chance to learn about her. I took the opportunity and started researching her, finding out what she did to make a difference.

BOMB GONE!

I feel excited and thrilled as we are all lined up against the handrail waiting for the bomb to release. Facing the starboard ( right side ) the commander started the countdown from 60 reaching 1. ” BOMB GONE! ” I could feel sweat coming down from my head caused by the heat. I can see my bones through my eyelids. The commander started to count up from 1 to 15, then he said ” goggles off, all eyes open and face the blast! ” I turn, seeing beautiful magical colours. The clouds in the shape of a big fluffy mushroom. Heat penetrated my body as I watched the burst

Advocate for the poor

How can I be an Advocate Kai Korero like Jesus?

I can be an advocate by listening and understanding people that are having rough times throughout their lives. I need to help them by being kind and giving them the support they need to build their courage and mana. I will look after the disabled people, as they do not have opportunities to do most things like everyone else. I can care for the elderly by giving them food and medical help if they are in need.

Clay/Pennies For Hitler

In room 8 we recreated a tragic scene from a book called Pennies For Hitler by Jackie French.  My group chose the scene where the main character Georg had to try and fit into a suitcase, he had to go to his Aunt Miriam and stay with her for a while because he was a German citizen that was a Jew. During those days Germans believed that Jews were bad people, they made up rumors that Jews were poisoning their food and all other stuff.  Our rationale for choosing this scene is it was the first thing that came to mind probably because it was so shocking It must have been hard for Georg separating from his  family. The part I enjoyed was when I got to paint the work that my group made.

Georg/Diary/ After Elizabeth Dies

It feels like I am watching the whole world tear down, everyone in London hiding with fear and frustration trying to survive.

As I am watching people suffer and die falling to the floor with blood flowing like a stream out of their body, I am trying to find my Aunt Miriam. I don’t know whether she is alive or dead, captured or executed by the Germans, everything is just going wrong I am all alone in this big place that looks like a train wreck. Bombs flying down like a plane about to crash and people running around like little ants when humans try to squish them into little tiny watery bits of black pieces.

I have worn the same clothes for almost 2 days, people that I go past look so emaciated. I feel my skin going tight with blood that is slowly drying on my skin and clothes. I can still feel the guilt of not being able to help her as she was bleeding. She felt cold and looked as pale as a ghost, her lips as blue as the sky, and her eyes looking as black as night.   I am walking through this fog of speckled dust, people screaming for help and weeping as I walk past. I feel like giving up, but I know I have to be strong for my family.

Waka Ama 🚣‍♀️

On the 15th of March I woke up excitedly and quickly got ready for Waka Ama  ( canoeing ) I may or may not have forgotten about the Waka Ama so I came to school late, luckily I was right on time and saw that my class was still there when I had arrived. Oh boy I was relieved. I quickly changed, put on sun block and we all waited for the bus to arrive. Once the bus arrived, we all went into our own little pairs to sit next to each other. The drive was not that long but that is also the time when I started getting a bit nervous but never showed it. My mind kept on making up the worst things that could happen like what if I drown, or the boat flips over and I can’t swim in the deep, and all those other incredibly dangerous things that could happen to me. As soon as we got there we sat in four groups of five and sat in a line with our groups. As we got into our lines with our groups I start to see life jackets right next to the paddles. I start to feel a bit better but still feeling a bit anxious until I start hearing them talking about safety and saying that it is not possible for the boat to flip over and that made me feel relieved.

After our safety talk we combined 2 of our teams into one and did the same with the other team, then my team and our instructor went down to the wharf and saw 2 big beautiful boats waiting for us to hop in and paddle around the sea. We went one by one getting inside, and some had to hold on to the boat so it wouldn’t flow away. When everyone was in, we started paddling in time with the instructor, he also told us that when we paddle together it puts pressure and power on the boat so that it can boost itself to move. After a few paddles around the lake we decided to do a race. Each team came next to each other and started paddling. People in my team were rushing. We started to slow down and the others started catching up to us. My team lost, but there was another race back to where we started, we also lost on that round because we were too busy looking at the other team and seeing what they were doing instead of focusing on where we were going. The last race was when we had to paddle with our arms instead. Our team won that round, we were all happy and had another few rides around the lake and also picked up some plastic that we saw along the way. Later on we started playing in the water and had fun splashing and throwing water at each other.

Once we finished playing in the water, we all helped carry the canoes out of the water and put it on top of rolling tyres so that all we had to do was push the canoes into the garage where they belong. Once we pushed all the canoes in to the garage, we all went to shower and change so that we would be all dry and warm. We all said our thank you’s and quickly hopped into the bus and went back to school.

Blog Profile

School is AMAZING! But let me tell you about my life, excluding all personal info, OBVIOUSLY!

As many of you may know, my name is Sulia.I am 11 years old going on to 12 this year. I am a NZ citizen but I come from Tonga. I have plenty of favourite things to do, so I am just going to break down some of them. 1. I love spending time with Family, 2. Playing the piano, which can also be a hobby and 3. Singing.

I play Rippa Rugby and am now training and learning how to play Volleyball and Netball. NOW IT’S TIME FOR THE 2nd MOST AMAZING PART… FOOD! IF DON’T ALREADY KNOW I LOVE FOOD. I love eating fries/chips but IF IT HAS TO BE HEALTHY I also love eating strawberries and GREEN grapes.

Family is the most important part, my dad teaches my brothers how to play rugby and also teaches me steps to get a try for my team in Rippa Rugby. On the other hand my mum teaches me how to bake and how to play Volleyball and Netball, I love my brothers but sometimes they make MY HEAD BURST INTO FLAMES! But… we apologise after… a day. or two. Just kidding.

Anyways that is all I am going to say about my life.

BUT THIS WILL NOT BE THE LAST TIME YOU’RE GOING TO READ SOMETHING FROM ME!
